Eleven years…

Posted by mancuso on May 18th, 2005

“Pop” Santo Mancuso set foot in America on May 9, 1911 in search of the American dream. In the eleven years to follow, the girl he last saw as an seven year old family friend grew into a stunning young woman. The arrangement was made and on August 26, 1922 (Dave’s birthday) Carolina Lia stepped off the Patria from Naples and entered Ellis Island. The beautiful 18 year old stood 5 foot 3 inches, chestnut eyes and – oddly enough- was recorded to have blond hair. She had 36 dollars to her name (given to her by her “promised one” Pop) and made her way back with Pop to his house at 592 Garfield Street in Hazelton.

Those eleven years are a mysterious time that need to be filled in. Calling all uncles! Please click on Family History below to fill the gaps…

2006 Reunion

Posted by mancuso on May 10th, 2005

The Joe Mancuso, Sr. branch of our family is embarking on the planning process for the 2006 Mancuso Family Reunion. We are excited to be gathering in Las Vegas, Nevada this time around! The location to be chosen will be convenient to Hoover Dam, Bryce Canyon, many dude ranches and the casinos. We are targeting hotels outside of the actual Vegas strip for the best family focus. We have been reviewing establishments with suite possibilities, 3-star ratings, and reasonable rates (more to come here). Most importantly we will need to establish a time of year that will serve most attendees effectively. Summer? Fall? This will be our first step… survey information to follow. Can’t wait to see you all! – Lisa

“Pop ” Santo Mancuso

Posted by mancuso on May 10th, 2005

On this day in 1911, “Pop” Santo Mancuso arrived at Ellis Island with 25 dollars in his pocket, 17 years old, on his way to a friend’s house named Samuel Pentafora. He had spent days in steerage sailing aboard the LaBretagne from Havre, France after presumably changing ships from Serzale…

Imagine that…
